USAA's new Plano IT center

USAA just moved the first 51 employees into its new IT center in Plano facility on January 20th with another nine moving in January 23rd.  USAA has much more hiring in its immediate future. The IT department plans to hire 150 more workers in Plano by the end of the year.

USAA offers banking, mortgage, wealth management, property/casualty insurance and automobile loans to active and retired military service members and their families.  The bank relies on mobile and online services much more than traditional companies because its members are deployed all over the world.  This operation is focused on brand new development for brand new capabilities that get folded into their dot.com site or mobile app.

The Plano workplace is divided into pods with eight to 12 employees each so it’s easy to collaborate. Each pod has a pair of flat-screen televisions so the IT workers can teleconference with their peers in San Antonio.  Most of the walls are painted with a special paint that employees can draw and erase on.

The building is at the corner of Legacy Drive and Parkwood Boulevard. So far, USAA has completed one of the three floors on building B. The total square footage for the two buildings, which will take another 11 months to fully develop, is 240,000 square feet. (1/22/14)
