Plano took fourth place on the list released by Movoto Real Estate Blog. It was tapped for it's low crime rate. Movoto reported that Plano lacked violent crimes, and did not see any murders in 2012. The blog said the city experienced just 130 violent crimes per 100,000 people in 2012, and residents had a 1 in 40 chance of being a crime victim.
Plano Police Chief Greg Rushin said the city’s low crime rate is linked to engagement between residents and police and the department hiring the best officers. “We focus daily on safety,” Rushin told me. “We’re lucky in Plano because we have such great residents.”
In putting together the list, Movoto looked at the 100 most populated cities in the U.S. in 2012, and then looked at how many murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft and vehicle theft crimes were committed in each area that year. (4/11/14)
